Book of Mormon geography—Old World—Nahom

Summary: Nephi's party reaches an area "which was called Nahom" (1 Nephi 16:34) near the time that they make an eastward turn in their journey. Strikingly, altars dating from the time of Lehi have been found with the inscription "NHM." Semitic languages of the time did not use vowels in their written texts, so this corresponds to a name of "nahom." The location of these altars matches the appropriate place in Lehi's journey.
