CALLER:
Thanks for your passion for truth and apologetics. I’ve been going over a book it’s called ‘4,000 changes of the Book of Mormon’ and I received that from the White House of Utah (?) I guess my question is where do I find where it gets out of hand so I can show my Mormon friends the deviations I guess.
RICHARD ABANES:
Right, well that’s a big thick book you’re going through and the major changes they’re in there William you just have to go ahead and go through the book and find them. There are major changes doctrinally. For example in many of the places in the Book of Mormon Jesus was called the Son of the Son of the Father. Very odd. Also, there were some portions of the Book of Mormon where the Father was actually equated with being the Son. That needed to be changed and this is very significant because we were told according to Joseph Smith that the Book of Mormon, as it was translated, as it was delivered and originally printed in 1830 was the most correct of any book on earth. What’s interesting is that the grammar of the book was absolutely atrocious when it was first released which you would not think would be the case if God himself wrote it.
The Truth about Changes in The Book of Mormon:
- Textual changes—The claim is often heard that there are more than 4000 changes to the Book of Mormon text. The majority of these are typographical. Few of the changes are significant. We examine the more noteworthy changes. (Link)
