FAIR conference countdown

July 25, 2008 by Mike Parker

The 2008 FAIR conference is less than two weeks away!

Today (Friday, 25 July) is the last day to pre-register and have a box lunch included with your conference ticket.

Online pre-registration ends Saturday, 2 August. After that, tickets will be available at the door, based on available seating.

We’ll be liveblogging the conference from this site, so if you’re attending and you have a laptop, please bring it. We’ll have free wireless Internet access available.

If you have any questions, please feel free to comment below, or send an email to mparker (AT) fairlds (DOT) org.

    I can’t go. I wish I could.

I would like to hear Darius and Margaret.

“Humble Apologetics” by Dan – now that is an interesting topic. May I steal the title?

And of course, I would make a point to say hi to Blake. My wife says I really ought to.

Hey, I will be looking for the live-blogging action.

I’ve heard from someone I’d ordinarily consider a very reliable source (a CES instructor, no less) that Matthew Brown will be giving a presentation claiming that Joseph Smith had “nothing at all to do with Freemasonry.” That ought to be…..oh, let’s just say “remarkable.”

    Nick,

Perhaps you should come to the conference and hear Matthew for yourself so that you don’t have to rely upon speculation from others.

The only thing that we know about Matthew’s presentation is that it is entitled “The Israelite Temple and the Early Christians.” FAIR doesn’t “pre-screen” presentations, and presenters are responsible for the content of their own presentations. (I haven’t talked to Matthew about what he will be saying, nor have I seen an advance copy of his presentation.)

If you do decide to come to the conference (and I hope you do), look me up. It would be good to meet you in person.

Allen Wyatt said: “you don’t have to rely upon speculation from others.”

But that takes all the fun out of repeating completely untrue drivel on the internet.

Being from AZ and not being able to attend, have you considered some type of a live feed that I can watch from my office while I act like I am working?

AZ is nice but we always miss these types of events.

For those that won’t be able to attend in person, we are going to set up audio streaming (and possibly some video streaming) over the Internet. If you would like to participate this way, send an email to streaming (AT) fairlds (DOT) org for more information.

If the streaming works to your satisfaction, we would hope that you will make an after-the-fact $25 donation to FAIR to help cover our costs. We aren’t going to charge up-front for this as the streaming this year will be a test and we may have technical difficulties.

I’m delighted to hear it’s “untrue drivel,” Matthew! If not for my past experience with the source, I would have dismissed it entirely.

Thanks Trevor, I think I’ll check this out and spread it on to some of my other buddies that are in Texas who can’t make it.

    Nick,

Your last comment fell short of the apology I think Matt Brown and FAIR deserve, considering the sarcastic tone in your first comment.

Hope you can make it to a FAIR conference someday to see what actually goes on, rather than relying on the uninformed opinions of others.

What kind of liveblogging do you have planned?

  12. James says

    August 6, 2008 at 2:27 pm

So has it been determined if both audio and video will be streamed live?

    I’m excited!

    Bryce,

Sorry this reply is so late. We’ll have an open thread for each day of the conference. Conference-goers will have wireless Internet, and we’ll encourage (as much as possible) live commenting on the presentations.
